In order to be eligible for an award, delegates must submit a position paper to htsmun@hts.on.ca by the time committee begins on the day of the conference. Crisis position papers are not required but will be accepted and considered for the position paper award. Reliable sources must be cited in Chicago format. Plagiarized content will result in automatic disqualification from all awards.

Topic A: Improving cross-border e-commerce cooperation

For topic A, the committee would be focusing on improving cross-border e-commerce cooperation. Delegates would be discussing relevant solutions to develop member economies within the Asia-Pacific region, such as standardizing regulations, enhancing digital privacy, and promoting consumer protection. The goal of this topic is to foster a conducive environment for cross-border e-commerce, benefiting businesses and consumers alike. 

Topic B: Small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) development in the Asia-Pacific region

For topic B, delegates would be focusing on the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Delegates would be discussing ways to promote the growth of SMEs in the Asia-Pacific region, such as improving access to financing and enhancing the participation of SMEs in regional and global value chains. The goal of this topic is to facilitate inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

After a period of turbulence under the leadership of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the Conservative Party elected Liz Truss as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. An economy negatively affected by factors such as the pandemic and Brexit, a new mini-budget proposal soon lead to a series of controversial economic decisions, leaving this committee with the task of rebuilding the UK's economy amid high rates of inflation and debt.

Vietnam War

Although the Vietnam War occurred over 50 years ago, its impact is still felt by regions around the world today. This war caused the losses of more than a hundred billion dollars and the lives of hundreds of thousands, causing the eventual US withdrawal from Vietnam. This Joint-Crisis Committee will separate into 2 committees: one being the West and South Vietnam, and the other being the USSR, their allies, and North Vietnam. The JCC will be set on November 14th, 1965, the beginning of the Battle of Ia Drang, the first major battle between the United States Army and the People’s Army Of Vietnam.
